Short links
A short link is an address on your own store that’s easy to say out loud, such as ridgelinecoffee.com/sam. A creator can read it out in a video or put it in a description. It sends visitors to a page you choose, with UTM parameters added, so your analytics tools (Google Analytics or Northbeam, for example) can tell which creator brought them.
Creator Jam creates each short link as a URL redirect in your Shopify store, so it works on your domain without any theme changes. You need a connected Shopify store with the write_online_store_navigation scope.
For example:
ridgelinecoffee.com/sam ↳ redirects to ridgelinecoffee.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=influencer&utm_campaign=sam_builds_stuffOne link, many deals
Section titled “One link, many deals”Short links live in one shared library on the Short Links page rather than inside a single deal. You can attach the same link to several conversations, such as Sam’s first video and the follow-up deal six months later. When you edit the link, the change applies everywhere it’s attached.
The Short Links page is your team's library of short links.
- The creator filter shows All creators, links with No creator, or one creator's links.
- New short link creates a link.
- The copy icon (Copy full URL) copies the full address. The open icon tries it in your browser.
- Convos is how many conversations the link is attached to.
- The pencil icon edits the link. The trash icon deletes it.
Create a short link
Section titled “Create a short link”You can start from either place:
- On the Short Links page, select New short link.
- In a conversation, select New Link in the Short Links section. The creator is already chosen, and the new link is attached to that conversation.
- Choose the Creator, or No creator. Choosing a creator fills in a suggested path and UTM values.
- Check the Vanity path, which is the part after your domain. The suggestion is the creator’s name with spaces removed, such as
sambuildsstuff, so shorten it to something easy to say, likesam. Creator Jam makes paths lowercase, turns spaces into hyphens and drops other punctuation. - Choose the Landing page: Homepage, or Custom page followed by a path on your store, such as
/pages/samor/products/house-blend. - Check the UTM parameters: Source, Medium and Campaign. Select + Add content / term if you also want Content and Term. Empty fields are left out of the link.
- Optionally, add a Label to name the link in your library. If you leave it blank, the library shows the creator’s name.
- Check the Preview, which shows the short address and where it redirects to. Then select Create short link.
When you choose a creator, Creator Jam suggests these values. You can change all of them before you save.
| Field | Suggestion | For Sam Builds Stuff |
|---|---|---|
| Vanity path | The creator’s name, lowercase, letters and numbers only | sambuildsstuff |
| Source | The creator’s platform | youtube |
| Medium | influencer, for every creator |
influencer |
| Campaign | The creator’s name, with underscores between words | sam_builds_stuff |
Share a link
Section titled “Share a link”Select the copy icon (Copy full URL) next to a link to copy the full address, or the open icon to try it in your browser. Links use your store’s primary domain from Shopify, such as ridgelinecoffee.com. If Creator Jam can’t read your primary domain, it shows your .myshopify.com address instead.
Attach a link to a conversation, or remove it
Section titled “Attach a link to a conversation, or remove it”To reuse a link on another deal, open that conversation and select Attach in the Short Links section. Then pick the link from the list and select Attach. The list shows every library link that isn’t already on that conversation.
To remove a link from a conversation, select its unlink icon (Remove from this conversation). The link keeps working and stays in your library.
The Convos column on the Short Links page shows how many conversations each link is attached to.
Edit a link
Section titled “Edit a link”Select the pencil icon on the Short Links page or in a conversation, make your changes and select Save changes. Creator Jam updates the redirect in Shopify straight away, and every conversation using the link sees the change.
Delete a link
Section titled “Delete a link”You can only delete a link from the Short Links page. Select the trash icon, then confirm in the Delete short link? panel. The redirect is removed from Shopify and stops working, and the link disappears from every conversation it was attached to. The panel tells you how many that is. If you only want the link off one deal, remove it from that conversation instead.
When a path is already taken
Section titled “When a path is already taken”Every path on your store can only redirect to one place, so Creator Jam checks before it creates a link.
| What Creator Jam tells you | What it means | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| The path already exists and shows where it redirects | The path is already a link in your Creator Jam library | In a conversation, select Attach existing link to reuse it, or Choose a different path. On the Short Links page you can only choose a different path. |
| The path already exists as a redirect in your Shopify store, but wasn’t created in Creator Jam | Someone created that redirect in Shopify admin | Select Choose a different path, or delete the redirect in your Shopify admin and try again. Creator Jam never overwrites a redirect it didn’t create. |
Find links in the library
Section titled “Find links in the library”The Short Links page lists each link’s Vanity URL, Creator, Landing page, Campaign, Convos and Created date. Use the filter above the table to show All creators, links with No creator, or one creator’s links.
Creator Jam doesn’t count clicks on short links. Clicks and sales from the UTM parameters show up in your analytics tools. If you use GoAffPro and a creator’s affiliate referral code matches their short-link path, Creator Jam uses that match to connect the affiliate to the creator.
