Connecting Shopify

Connecting your Shopify store lets Creator Jam create gifted orders for creators and follow them to delivery. It also lets Creator Jam create discount codes and publish short links on your store’s domain. Each team connects one store, and anyone on the team can connect, update or disconnect it.

To connect, you create a small private app for your store in Shopify and paste its Client ID and Client secret into Creator Jam. Creator Jam uses them to ask Shopify for access whenever it needs it, so there’s no access token to copy.

  • You need a Shopify login that’s allowed to develop apps for your store.
  • The app has to belong to the same Shopify organization as your store. Shopify only lets this kind of app work on stores in its own organization, so an app that an agency or freelancer creates in their own account won’t connect.

Since January 2026, Shopify creates new apps like this one in its Dev Dashboard rather than directly in the store admin. Shopify renames screens from time to time, so if a label below doesn’t match what you see, look for the closest equivalent.

  1. Open the Shopify Dev Dashboard at dev.shopify.com. From your Shopify admin you can also go to Settings → Apps and follow the option to develop apps, which takes you to the Dev Dashboard.
  2. Under Apps, select Create app, then Start from Dev Dashboard. Give it a name your team will recognize, such as “Creator Jam”, and select Create.
  3. On the app’s Versions page, add the scopes listed in the next section to Scopes. Creator Jam doesn’t run inside your Shopify admin, so Shopify’s suggested default App URL is fine.
  4. Select Release.
  5. Select Install app, choose your store, and select Install.
  6. Open App settings and find the Credentials card. You’ll copy the Client ID and Client secret from here in step 2.

Each Creator Jam feature needs one Shopify scope. In Shopify, a write_ scope includes read access, so you don’t need to add the matching read_ scope as well.

Scope What it powers in Creator Jam
read_orders Status, products and tracking for orders linked to a conversation, and the Orders page
write_draft_orders Creating, editing and deleting gifted draft orders, and noticing when a draft has been completed
read_products Browsing and importing your catalog on the Products page
write_discounts Creating and deleting discount codes, and reading their uses and revenue for Discount Codes and the ROI page’s Code Uses tab
write_online_store_navigation Creating, editing and deleting short links, which are URL redirects on your store

Here are all five on one line, ready to paste:

read_orders,write_draft_orders,read_products,write_discounts,write_online_store_navigation

If you won’t use a feature, you can leave its scope out. That feature shows an error until you add it.

  1. In Creator Jam, open Settings → Integrations and find the Shopify Integration card.
  2. In Shop Domain, enter your store’s .myshopify.com address, such as ridgeline-coffee.myshopify.com. Your Shopify admin lists it under Settings → Domains.
  3. Paste the Client ID and Client Secret from your Shopify app.
  4. Select Save Credentials.

Creator Jam stores the Client ID and Client secret encrypted and doesn’t show them again. It doesn’t test them with Shopify when you save. To check the connection, open Products in the sidebar and make sure your catalog loads.

What the card shows once you’re connected

Section titled “What the card shows once you’re connected”

The Shopify Integration card says Connected to followed by your store’s address, plus the date the credentials were last updated. Below that you’ll find:

  • Default Order Tag, an optional tag for your draft orders (see below).
  • Update Credentials and Disconnect.

Conversations now show working Shipments, Discount Codes and Short Links sections.

Every draft order Creator Jam creates is tagged Creator Jam Order in Shopify. You can add one more tag of your own to every new draft, such as influencer-seeding for your fulfillment rules or reports. Type it into Default Order Tag and select Save.

The tag fills in automatically on each new draft order, and you can change it for a single order before you create it. Changing the default doesn’t affect drafts that already exist.

Update Credentials opens the form again with Shop Domain, Client ID and Client Secret. Fill in all three and select Update, or Cancel to keep what you have. Use it after you rotate the app’s secret in Shopify or switch to a different app. Your Default Order Tag is kept.

Disconnect removes the stored credentials straight away, without asking you to confirm. Orders, discount codes and short links you already created stay in Shopify and stay listed in Creator Jam. Creator Jam stops checking order status and can’t create anything new until you connect again. To cut off access completely, also uninstall the app in Shopify.

What you see What to check
Products shows “Error fetching products” Check the shop domain, Client ID and secret, and that the app is installed on the store and has read_products. Then use Update Credentials to re-enter them.
An order card says “Could not load order details” Check the order number and the read_orders scope. By default, Shopify only lets apps see orders from the last 60 days. Older orders need the extra read_all_orders scope, which Shopify has to approve.
Creating a draft order, discount code or short link fails The app is probably missing write_draft_orders, write_discounts or write_online_store_navigation.
The card says Connected but nothing loads Because Creator Jam doesn’t test credentials when you save, a typo or the wrong app still shows as connected. Make sure the app and store share a Shopify organization and the app is installed. Then re-enter the details with Update Credentials.

When you add a scope, release a new version of the app in the Dev Dashboard and approve the change on your store. Creator Jam can keep using its existing Shopify access for up to a day, so a new permission can take that long to start working.
